1. Introduction
German civil procedure law regulates the formal requirements to be fulfilled by civil proceedings, on the one hand, and determines the course of the different types of proceedings, on the other hand. Apart from fulfilment of formal prerequisites, the outcome of a lawsuit depends on whether the asserted claim exists under substantive law.
